In Their Thousands formed in May 2011 in Co. Donegal. The McClafferty brothers Aidan & Declan and their cousin RuairĂ Friel rented a house in the sleepy village of Ramelton and started writing, recording and rehearsing original material. Over the course of the year longtime friend Liam Kelly joined the band on bass and the project became In Their Thousands. The writing and recording session from that summer grew into the material on the bands debut EP affectionately referred to as 'The Steeples EP'. It was released to acclaim at the Earagail Arts Awakening festival on February 3rd 2012 in the dramatic settings of Rathmullen house. The EP is the first of a quartet of EP's to be released by the band as an ongoing project, the artwork for each being linked to the last. The second EP 'Cellars' was released on September 8th 2012 in a pop-up venue lovingly created from a work-shed in rural Co. Donegal to which 150 fans were taken on a mystery tour... The bands sound is diverse - With the songs coming from all band members their live set changes from stunning vocal harmony laced acoustic acapella folk to edgy electric alternative rock in a seamless progression. Live, the band are honed from a hectic festival circuit that seen them perform at Electric Picnic, Westport Festival of Music & Food, Knockanstockan, Vantastival, Glasgowbury, Derry Folk Festival, Carnival of Colours, Little Apple Cider Festival (Cornwall) and complete two UK tours with a third run of UK gigs scheduled for early 2014. Their latest release was recorded with Dublin based producer Dave "Skippy" Christophers over two separate weeks in 2013, this is the third EP in the series of four. Called "Between the Waters", and featuring artwork designed by the band alongside long-time collaborator Annette Gallagher, the songs explore the cruelness and melancholy of the sea; Loss; Finds; How we relate to power in our society; Patterns and Harvests. The record has seven tracks and includes the single version of Tear It All Apart which reached number 23 in the Irish alternative iTunes charts on it's release in July 2013.
